Hey, just thought this would be fun. So, basically, pick an actor who you think would do a good job playing your characters in a movie. And before we get going: since we're not rich execs with hollywood connections and loads of talent scouts, racial inaccuracy will be forgiven. (As long as we limit ourselves to no more than two Zach Efrons, kthanks ).
And to make this more fun than "Who looks like your character?" you can make your choice based on a combination of acting and appearance. You're also allowed a time machine.
I'll start things off with Hu Yuan, who I would choose to be played by none other than...
He may not quite have had all of the bulk of an Earthbender, but he had such amazing energy and a big ol' "I can't tell if he's happy or crazy" smile that helped his turn as Kikuchiyo in Seven Samurai. Plus, he can rock the beard OR clean shaven! How versatile!
Next up, we've got my Jade Shark character, Bataar, who I would choose to be played by a young...
Specifically, Once Were Warriors era Temuera Morrison, before he got his much deserved Hollywood payday as Jango Fett. Ideally, I'd have liked to cast a Mongolian actor, but Temuera was too perfect. Not only does he have the height and the face, but he plays one hell of a tough guy. When Temuera says "Don't mess with me," people listen. BAMF Level: S++
This is Clearly because Zhuge Liang in Redcliff is a more srsbsns Touda in general and the goatee and the fact that I maintain steadfastly that Touda is indeed Chinese. Also Takeshi Kaneshiro makes me people crush on him hard.
Liu Yifei isn't exactly how I imagine Kiza, but she's similar, and in some shots she looks almost dead-on. Her nose isn't quite right (in my head Kiza's is a little bumpity, but not distractingly so), but she's got the right longish and full-but-not-wide face-shape. Also her eyes are right, except for color because nobody in real life has Fire-Nation-colored eyes. On that note, her hair is a little darker than I think of Kiza's, too, but it's cool.
This is unrelated to acting ability; I have no idea if Yifei's got it but she certainly could look a slightly-prettier-hollywood-version of the part. BONUS: she's the right height and build!
PS TURDLE I've been studying the Romance of the Three Kingdoms in Chinese Lit and my teacher told us to watch Redcliff and now when I do, I won't be able to unsee it.
I love Redcliff! I purchased the DVD for my Grandpa to see it, and I watched it with him (with him translating some parts for me). I'm not a history major by any means, but I love the Three Kingdoms period. I've read some essays from that period, and I've read Art of War by Sun Tzu (though he was before that time).
As for actors, I've never thought of someone playing the role of Shin before. But I guess if I had to choose one, I'd pick Dennis Oh. Appearance-wise, he's not a dead ringer but somewhat close. Acting-wise, he's okay.
Actually, I changed my mind. I found another celeb who looks more like Shin... and has acted in an X-men movie. LOL Daniel Henney
Dennis Oh looks more like another OC I have (aka Shin's bro-in-law).
