Name: Rain Jin
Nick Name: Rain
Name Meaning: A variant of ‘Raijin’ which means thunder spirit.
Birthday: April 4, 83 ASC
Build: Thin, but becoming more athletic under Toph's relentless drills
Hair: Long Black
Kinsey Scale: 1
(Just because he isn't attracted to men, it does not mean he hasn't slept with them, or wouldn't pursue them)
Appearance: Rain is extremely attractive, with long black hair and soft, slightly feminine features. Still, it is easy to see the strong nose and chin attributed to most earth kingdom men. His eyes are gray, and would be described by most as ‘sad’, or ‘vacant’. They seem not to look at you, but through you. On his back and thighs he has dozens of thin white scars, crisscrossing each other haphazardly, all evidence of brutal beatings.
Skills: Earthbending - Intermediate.
His formal training ended when he turned ten. He did pick up some tips and tricks from the other benders during his imprisonment on a Fire Nation Barge.
Also, Because she felt Mahin needed some male earthbending friends his age, he has been drafted into Toph's stable of students- rather unwillingly! He's been calling her 'Master' since March, 107 ASC.
Family: Rain remembers little of his biological family or childhood in general, and does not wish to remember or find them. He would rather they think he was dead then know the truth about him.
Birthplace: Earth Kingdom – Unknown
Current Location: Fire Nation Harbor City
History: He had both a mother and a father, as well as a little sister, he knows that, and he knew they lived on the northeast coast of the Earth Kingdom, a few days walk from the outer wall of Ba Sing Se. When he was ten, he was kidnapped and enslaved by the Fire Nation where he worked on one of their ships hauling coal until he was 16 and the war ended.
The ship life was brutal and cutthroat, like the ship that Haru and Katara were imprisoned on, there was never enough food or blankets to go around. Unlike their ship, however, there was no strong leader like Tyro to insure that the prisoners helped one another. Usually Rain Jin was cold and hungry until he learned that a pretty face was leverage. Another Prisoner wouldn't surrender their blanket, but, they may be willing to share it.
When the war ended, instead of submitting to defeat and pledging loyalty to the new Fire Lord, the captain of the ship took his cargo and fled, selling the ship and it’s contents to the first buyer he could find and disappearing. Rain Jin was passed from owner to owner, but somewhere along the line, when he matured and his skin cleared up, he was transitioned from hard labor to carnal pleasures. Quickly, he was picked out by a brothel owner in the Fire Nation Capital to be an escort due to his lovely features and broken spirit. Both were excellent qualities in a male prostitute. He worked in her house for about two years, then he managed to convince one of his regulars into buying him from the Madame. He told her he was an investment, and an earthbender, and that he was very well behaved.
After a year of living with her, she bought a house in Shu Jing and retired there, and he followed her. Usually cloistered, whenever he was allowed out, he was introduced as a cousin's Grandson who was vacationing there for his health. This was probably never believed, but neither was it disputed.
Although he was not happy about being a slave, he was grateful to his new benefactress for helping him. He knew he had cost a whole lot more than he was worth, but the older woman had developed a soft spot for him, and spoiled him like a well loved family pet. She brought him silks and fine foods, gave him a generous allowance, and even found him scrolls on earthbending to teach himself from... though he never did. It was that gratitude and the high rank he had among the slaves of her house that made his situation bearable. He could have escaped if he wanted to, the Fire Nation was no longer a hostile place for someone of Earth Kingdom blood, but, in truth, he rationalized his compliance with the rational that he had nowhere else to go.
Unfortunately, in his twentieth year, his Mistress fell ill and died a few months later. In the commotion, redistribution of wealth, and grief that followed her death, nobody remembered to tell his new Master anything about him other than the type of slave he was. He was inherited by his old mistress' nephew, who had a cruel streak and his own specialized tastes. The Man had been a Lieutenant in Fire Lord Ozai’s army, and on his way up until he was dishonorably discharged by Fire Lord Zuko for the hideous war crimes he had allegedly committed in the Earth Kingdom. Rain Jin became his new toy and the unwilling ear to the man’s confessions that were the deranged boasting of a sadist.
He doesn't really like to talk about his experiences there.
He lasted three years though, until a sudden break in sanity had him shred the house entirely by it's foundations. Nobody knew he was an earthbender, and precautions were not taken. It had been easy enough to escape, the house was leveled, and everyone inside crushed. Everyone who knew him assumed he had died in the "collapse", and nobody came looking for him. Unfortunately, after being a possession or accessory to a rich aristocrat, it was hard to take care of himself. He didn't remember much of the outside world, and he soon found that there was little place for a slightly deranged, pampered ex-whore. He scraped by, helping with construction jobs and farming for a place to sleep or a bit of coin. He stole. He begged. Not even in his most desperate moments did he even consider warming someone's bed for coin.
Personality: It is hard to pinpoint his actual personality. He has so many masks he can put on and take off. Whether these are "acts" or multiple personalities he hasn't quite decided, some days he feels one way, some days not. He could be a charming gentleman, a flirtatious whore, a loyal servant, or a cold and mysterious stranger. He has slipped in and out of character so often, there isn't much left of the real thing.
Plain old Rain Jin without the act is quiet and calculating with a sort of hopelessness about him. He has been known to kill those who threaten him readily, but does not remember it. Perhaps some latent, savage personality takes over. He rarely shows true emotion of any sort, but pretends he does, which is almost the same thing.
He is very polite.
He is proper to noblemen, ladies especially, as such manners were beaten into him over his life. He is more at ease in the company of women than men. Fire Nation men scare and unsettle him though he tries not to show it. He has gotten better about it though.
