Back-logged to late October/before they went back to Shu Jing. I claim this last thread for now. This is also probably going to be short. Also listen to this, yes.
Feet thudded around the docks, and the settling chill made her shudder, as Yumi watched the ship load itself. It was setting sun and she sighed, placing her hands into her chin. Behind her, the Kyoshi Warriors and the family were hugging each other good-bye. The finals goodbyes were being put into place now and she watched with eyebrows furrowed. Every so often she heard footsteps pass her, getting onto the ship.
This time, she heard soft footsteps. Ty's were similar to that but as she turned, she only saw Lady Katara, her students and Lady Mai boarding the ship. A frown settled into her features, wrecking them.
But then she heard the obvious voice of the other Warriors, not too far away. She spied Ayame, laughing and giggling, along with a couple of the older girls. They were all hugging Ty Lee and punching her arm playfully. The girls' goodbyes were always like this. "Hey," she said quietly, watching them. Ayame and the rest quieted down. "Ty, can we talk?"
"You wish, Ayame." Ty Lee was smiling sadly, hugging one of her long time comrades. "Azula would chew you up and spit you out!" Ayame was nice, and a competent warrior, but she was no Azula, she didn't have the killing instinct that the Princess was so famous for. Then again, if the Kyoshian put half as much effort into training as she did into her other shenanigans, then Azula would need to watch her back.
While she was letting go, a familiar voice pulled her attention, and she turned around to face Yumi. "Now?" Ty Lee asked, and then yelped as one of the other girls punched her in the arm, not so playfully this time. The message was clear: Don't talk to the acting Captain like that. Not that Yumi herself would ever have the guts to exercise that sort of authority on her subordinate ex girlfriend. "Alright." That answer seemed to be met with less painless approval.
Ty Lee waited for a minute as the flutter of green skirts drifted off, then stood on her toes to make sure that Ayame had indeed fluttered off and wasn't hanging back, just in earshot. Then? Then she would offer a grudging, "I'm sorry about the fight." A little sorry had not been enough to quench the burn of angry. "I was a little drunk." And more than a little bit hurt, even if it was 'only a kiss.'
Yumi almost sighed and turned back around, thinking it was pointless. Half the time she went and apologized to Ty Lee? It ended in another fight. She could probably pull up letters on it, if they weren't all into shreds or hidden away from her so she wouldn't do it to them too. "Yes, now," because when else would they? In letters, things got mixed and more fights came along. A slight smile made its way onto her face.
The girls knew, all of them knew about the two. It was probably a gossip topic for Ayame, but this issue wasn't it. Yumi held authority over all the girls and they knew their place. But she wouldn't have done that. It wouldn't have done what the other girls managed to make it do.
The girls looked a little disappointed when a pointed look from Yumi told them to go. She wasn't surprised Ayame was slightly lingering, but then she too chased up after the other girls. She paused, eyes widening. "No, no, Ty. Kyoshi, you..." she took a breath and bowed. "It's my... I'm sorry. That was my fault and I was drunk and I don't even know, wow, why should I have an excuse?" She looked at Ty Lee, directly in the eyes. "I shouldn't have done that. And I don't want you to leave again in the middle of another fight."
Ty Lee studied the ocean, the sand, anything that wasn't Yumi. She sat through the apology as graciously as she could. After that fight? She had a lot of lost dignity to make up for. It wasn't until the end that Ty Lee pinned her with an icy stare that probably smarted far worse than any swat with a folded fan ever could.
"Yumi..." Ty Lee always hated this part. "You remember when I said I didn't want anything serious, that I didn't want to get back together?" Arms were wrapped around her chest, and she rocked onto the balls of her feet. "I lied." Ty Lee didn't like committing to anything, but the fact of the matter was that Yumi had been her on and off thing for the better part of a decade. You didn't ford through that much time together without a healthy dose of love. The problem was that there was just as many unhappy memories as happy ones, and the more time they spent apart? The less it seemed to work when they were together again.
"I love you." Yumi could probably count on one hand the number of times she'd heard that phrase. Ty Lee was mad, yes. More than that though? She was exhausted. She probably sounded exhausted. The trip to Kyoshi Island was supposed to have been fun. It had been more upsetting than anything else. "Don't write me." She turned to go; would go, unless Yumi stopped her.
Yumi winced at the icy glare, but pushed past it. The apology was over and done with, that was all she had to do. She could have turned away right at this moment and walked away, not listened to what else the acrobat had to say. But it was Ty Lee and she was herself, so her feet stayed rooted there when the other girl began to talk.
"Yes?" She raised an eyebrow and then snapped her mouth shut. "Um.. yes, of course, I didn't..." She caught herself in a moment of surprised, eyes widening and then falling closed for a few moments before she sighed. "You...?" Yumi shook her head in surprise a few times before fixing a look on her. "O..okay," though she really had nothing else to say, no comments to add to the fact of the girl's truth. She loved Ty Lee still, but the little time they spent together wasn't... good for them. And they both knew it.
She brought a hand to her mouth, nodding. "..I.. I love you too, Ty," Yumi let out after a few moments. She watched her for a few moments before nodding silently. She barely made a motion to stop the girl, but reached out and squeezed the girl's nearest hand. "Be careful, ok? I don't.."I don't want to have to come after you would have been said but she let it die on her tongue, never reaching past her lips. Because she did want to go after the girl, but not for a reason like that. "Just try not to get hurt."
