 Huddle [All Airbenders!]
« Thread Started on May 29, 2011, 12:04am »

((OOC; I'm backlogging saying this thread takes place June Y 107 ASC, just so it doesn't look like the Airbenders have been sitting at the Western Air Temple for half a year. Obviously, if this interferes with anyone's plots I'll change it, but for the most part, I think it's more befitting of the storyline and all that.

If it does interfere, tell me. xD I don't want people to be like WTF and yeah. :3 Anyway... This is also before anyone gets word of Aang's 'death' - we just know he hasn't been around and the Airbenders shouldn't be babysitting themselves, yada yada...

SO LETS DO THIS.))

Things often took a turn for the worst when times became dire, and the absence of a certain air monk was left unspoken for months and months. Truly, what was left in the hands of the Fire Nation army was a responsibility far greater than anyone could comprehend during this calm era. Where lemurs once occupied, there rested bamboo sticks and foliage waited to be fitted for new gliders and accessories. Cobwebs clung to the walls.

It had been far too long. Days turned to week that then turned to months, and soon months would turn to years. Being left under the jurisdiction of a military unwilling to compromise frustrated Aoli—frustrated the rest of the children—and thus became a stigma on the surface of an unproductive year. Even some months into the summer, when she opted to open the large windows and air out the curtains, the morale seemed very low—understandably so.

Progress was slow, in other words. Between keeping their half of the temple clean, the airbenders had little to do but eat and train with what they were given, and Aoli was running out of card tricks to share with the far younger of the troupe. Questions floating around the absence of their master could only be answered with shrugs and “any day nows” that alluded them only to the fact that Aoli simply did not know when he would return. Zhen’s letters from the Royal Palace hadn’t been very helpful, and Aang wasn’t apt to respond, it seemed. The Earth King had just as little to offer.

And they still wouldn’t let her go on her own—to find him.

The very last resort in all of this was to comply with the army’s relocation efforts—to take Appa and stay with King Bumi in Omashu. It was why that morning, when Aoli whistled through the echo chamber, did she summon the rest of them to meet in her grand foyer. There, perhaps, she could finally give them some peace of mind with a blunt, ”We need to start packing our things,” that hoped to see through to everyone’s sleepy nature. ”The monarchy here wants us to go to Omashu where we won’t be so secluded.”

(OOC: hope it’s okay if Dai actually learned airbending now. :) )

The boy sighed as he turned away from his window. He was in his room, thinking of something he should be doing, something that may give him just a few minutes to focus on anything else other than how much time did they spend here on their own, doing pretty much nothing. They got food, they got everything really, except…Aang.

Just like the others, Dai felt more frustrated every day. Somehow they weren’t allowed to go anywhere outside the Temple. This place was amazing and all, but he didn’t want to sit all year until his beard grows.
He fell on the small bed in the room, which gave a raspy noise under his weight. He wanted to do something, go look for Aang if nobody did. Just get out of here for some time!

Of course they were all doing chores every day, playing games, but as the days passed, every routine became to some extent boring. There was one thing though that kept him going: training, more precisely practising airbending. The others taught him all they knew and finally he could actually use what nature blessed him with. During his free hours he often searched for a silent and windy place to practise on his own, to perfect every move. He even searched the other parts of the Temple for some scrolls, only to find that the Fire Nation burned down the whole library and every piece of knowledge the Air Nomads once had. Fortunately, those times were over, however there was the danger that another war will eventually break out in the future.

The arrival of the summer meant that he became one year older. Still, he wasn’t in a partying mood and he didn’t tell the others. The best gif would’ve been if they finally put their feet down, be able to search for Aang. They had Appa, who could protect them. Fort he spirits, he was a giant bison, weighing tons! Ont he other hand he had a special connection to Aang which could’ve been helpful. Thinking all of this, he just became angry at their ’security service’.

Suddenly Dai heard a noise that made him jump up from the bed. It was coming from the echo chamber. He ran out of the room, got there as fast as he could. When the boy was close enough, he saw Aoli standing there. A few minutes later all of them were around her and she finally told them why she summoned the group.
Finally!” came out as his first reaction to the ’packing’ part, though the following information somewhat had the opposite effect. With a sigh, he expressed what he thought. „I doubt we’ll get any further than that…” he said and after a small pause, Dai continued „...Though I lived there for years. It’s a great place and I can visit my foster father. Maybe he has some information regarding Master Aang.” he added as he remembered memories of living int he Earth Kingdom City of Omashu. Shan maybe had some rumors that might helped them.

(I'm sick. But I promised this would be up. So here, sorry its short.)

Tama hadn't been handling Aang's disappearance well, at all. She had taken to hiding in her room, with subtle encouragement from Ling. As a result, she had been very reluctant to leave when the whistle came to call them to the foyer. However, with Keanu at her heels, she had come along. Perching herself on a ledge, she had her arms wrapped Keanu as she listened to the others speak. Apparently they were leaving, this time with permission rather than her failed attempt to run. However, she had to speak up her own, quiet question. "Where is Omashu?" She knew it was a city in the Earth Kingdom, but that's as far as her knowledge went. She knew the trade route from the North Pole to the South, and later that knowledge had gotten added to by their exploits, but there was a lot of the world she wasn't familiar with.

At least there was progress to be made now, aside from things to look forward to and new places to make ‘home’. Packing, pushing, and flying the rest of the kids out to Omashu would be a journey, surely, but all in all better for them in the grand scheme of things. The guards standing post just above and below them kept the Western Air Temple a prison, for those last few months; Aoli was sure the lot of them had already ascertained that Aang wouldn’t be returning to relieve them of their duties.

”I think those guards want us to leave so they can, to be honest,” would’ve rung true enough to draw a laugh from any one of them, if they could hear. That echo chamber was a lot better to communicate that amid the rest of them, either way. ”And it’s… a trip—“ one they needed to make, to ensure their livelihood and preserve the integrity of the airbender way of life, if that’s what the Fire Lord was choosing to do with them…

It wasn’t a decision to be made by them, so thinking about it felt as useless as idling about with no sifu to teach them. Clearly, there’d been something for them in Omashu, if not a teacher than a mentor to keep their hands busy and their forms from weakening if King Bumi was willing to spar them and give them the beginner’s basics on bending. Tama would benefit from it, and Aoli knew well enough that as Dai grew stronger, he would be able to teach their youngest airbender a bit from his own book, as well.

She meandered over to Tama, in that mind—hunching over a little to smile at eye-level. ”Omashu’s a big city with mail chutes and hills. We’ll be staying with King Bumi, I’m guessing.” They would first need a map, right? Maybe not for themselves, but for Appa, in case the giant bison needed water on the way there. ”We’ll need to plan an itinerary for pit stops and stuff. Omashu’s a ways away…” So pack the teddies and whatever else…

No use stickin’ around here.

((ooc: short and messy post. sorryy))

His head was filled with thoughts in an instant as they discussed the journey ahead of them. Omashu was his home for years, he knew the city as the back of his hand. He left that life almost a year now, not looking back. A lot could have happened there during the months, even he became different in so many levels. Somehow he felt guilt not sending letters to Shan, assuring him that he was fine and found what they were looking for- his people, a family. Probably it was a weird game of destiny, getting back to where he came from, maybe this could be an opportunity to make things right over there too.

Aoli explained Tama what Omashu looked like and memories hit Day once again. The city was unique, no question. Its 'transporting system' were regularly used as slides by kids, he had tried it a few times himself. The girl then suggested that they should plan their route to the city. Appa couldn't fly this much without some stops, besides they needed sleeping as well. This journey will sure take a few days, depending how much the bison can do.
"Let's find a map first. We should pack only the most important things, the less weight Appa has to carry, the longer he can fly" suggested the boy "Also, pack food, enough for a day or two. We can resupply at the pit stops if needed"

Getting there was one thing, but what would they do there? Going school again, learning every kind of knowledge, except the one, they needed the most: aribending? Dai himself was determined he would take action regarding Aang's disappearance.
"When we get there I'll convince Shan to ask around at the Earth Kingdom military about sifu. He has some connections there and I bet they know something they haven't told us."
